Installation Booklets in 26 languages for the world‚ the world's largest public art project
Kcymaerxthaere is the world's largest public art project, spanning 151.5 installations across 30 nations. Featured in TED Talks and BBC, the project weaves together fictional histories, cultural storytelling, and site-specific art to create a unique global narrative.
Kcymaerxthaere aimed to document its expansive art installations in a cohesive and accessible format while reaching a global audience. The key challenges included:
Multilingual Complexity – The booklets had to be designed in over 20 languages, including Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Tamil, and more, each with unique typographic and formatting challenges.
Cultural Sensitivity & Accuracy – Translations had to maintain linguistic integrity while respecting cultural nuances.
Cohesive Visual Identity – With 151.5 diverse installations, the booklets required a unified design system that could accommodate multiple languages while preserving Kcymaerxthaere’s artistic vision.
Large-Scale Production & Distribution – Each booklet spanned 500+ pages, requiring careful content structuring, print optimization, and distribution planning across 20+ countries.
Adaptable Multilingual Design System
To ensure seamless integration of diverse languages while maintaining a consistent aesthetic, we developed a flexible and scalable design system that included:
Typography Optimization – We selected and adapted typefaces to support right-to-left (RTL) and left-to-right (LTR) scripts, ensuring readability across all languages.
Visual Consistency – A unified color scheme, layout structure, and graphic elements were implemented across all booklets to maintain a cohesive look.
Adaptive Layouts – The design accommodated text expansion and contraction, ensuring balanced spacing across all languages.
Translation & Cultural Sensitivity Management
Given the linguistic diversity of the project, we collaborated with a global network of skilled translators and native speakers to:
Ensure accurate translations while preserving the artistic and narrative essence of Kcymaerxthaere.
Conduct rigorous quality reviews to maintain linguistic precision and cultural appropriateness.
Adapt design layouts to accommodate script-specific challenges (e.g., Arabic calligraphy alignment, character density in Chinese and Tamil).
Large-Scale Production & Global Distribution
With booklets exceeding 500 pages and distributed across 20+ countries, we implemented:
Efficient content structuring to manage vast amounts of text and imagery without overwhelming the reader.
Optimized printing techniques to maintain high-quality production across different regions.
Strategic distribution planning, ensuring each region received localized versions in their native languages.
Through our comprehensive design and translation efforts, Kcymaerxthaere successfully:
Published and distributed multilingual booklets in 20+ languages, making its art accessible to a global audience.
Maintained visual and narrative cohesion across 151.5 installations while respecting cultural and linguistic diversity.
